Different Types of Mufflers
A muffler is in charge of absorbing the noise as gas moves through an exhaust system. The amount of noise you hear coming out of a car depends on the type of muffler, the size of the muffler, and the engine. Hurricane Automotive has a wide selection of Black Widow Exhausts. They are built to improve your engine's horsepower without the loud, harsh sounds. They are all made of stainless steel which won’t cause a flow restriction. All of the black widow mufflers are universal, so they can fit almost any exhaust system.
Chambered
A chambered muffler is a rectangular structure with a zig-zag pattern on the inside. This allows for sound to bounce off of the chamber walls before exiting through the tailpipe. A chambered muffler has an opening on each end for gases to enter and exit easily. These types of mufflers do not have insulation so they do not absorb sound as easily as others can.
Glasspack
The glasspack muffler has a more tubular shape. This shape allows gases to pass directing through the center of the muffler. There is a small amount of insulation which allows for some sound to be absorbed. Although the sound passes straight through, a glasspack muffler can still be one of the louder types of muffles. This is because the sound goes straight through and doesn’t stay in the muffler for long.
Flow Through
A flow-through muffler is a combination of a glasspack and chambered muffler. It has the rectangle shape of a chambered but has a tube that passes straight through like a glasspack muffler. The tube going through the rectangle shape is surrounded by insulation. The tube allows the gasses to go straight through like a glasspack, but the extra insulation provides some sound reduction.
The stainless steel Black Widow mufflers come in a variety of tubular and rectangle shapes. The different sizes and insulation provide different sounds for each muffler. For more information and details, visit Hurricane Automotive for all of your muffler needs.
