Eco Friendly Catalytic Converters
Newer catalytic converters are more eco friendly than ever before. While all catalytic converters work in some way to convert toxic pollutants in exhaust gas to less toxic pollutants that are emitted via a vehicle’s exhaust, newer catalytic converters may last longer while also helping to boost a vehicle’s fuel efficiency.
How Do Eco Friendly Catalytic Converters Work?
Since 1975, the purpose of catalytic converters was to convert or reduce the amount of harmful pollutants produced by a vehicle. Catalytic converers are filled with a catalyst made up of precious metals, which react with harmful exhaust gases. This reaction converts these harmful gases into water before leaving the vehicle's exhaust system.
As a means of complying with strict exhaust emissions regulations put forth by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), catalytic converters are built into most vehicles, and in some states, such as New York, Maine, and California, the use of more eco-friendly catalytic converters is mandatory.
Encouraging Environmentally Friendly Catalytic Converters
Before environmentally friendly catalytic converters were commonplace, the amount of pollution expelled from a single vehicle could cause significant environmental damage. However, environmentally friendly catalytic converters work to reduce the amount of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxides via the process of oxidation.
Oxidation breaks down the harmful pollutants into less harmful elements – water and carbon dioxide. Environmentally friendly converters are mandatory in states like California, New York, and Maine, where laws are stricter.
At Hurricane Automotive, we offer environmentally friendly catalytic converters that comply with federal and local emissions regulations. Shop our online inventory of converters today, or Contact Us for additional information or guidance.
